Biography

Dani Kouyaté, born in Bobo-Dioulasso in 1961, began his film career as a director in 1989 with the short film BILAKORO. In 1992, he founded the film production company “Sahelis Productions”. For his first feature film KEÏTA! L'HÉRITAGE DU GRIOT (1995), he received the prize for the best debut film at FESPACO (Pan-African Film and Television Festival in Ouagadougou) and was awarded the Junior Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. His most recent film KATANGA, an African adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth, received the Étalon d'or de Yennenga for best film at FESPACO this year. Dani Kouyaté teaches at Uppsala University in the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology and at Wiks Folkhögskola in Uppsala in the Department of Film and Theater.
