Biography

Abbas Yassin was born in 1987 in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum. He studied civil engineering in Sudan and then photography in Lebanon. In 2014, he sought asylum in Germany and founded the refugee band S.P. Music with other refugees in Hannover. The band performed at the 2016 Afrika Film Festival at a special event at the Filmhauskino cinema. He and director Florian Brüggemann joined forces to make the film SCREAM FROM THE CAMP about the refugee protest camp on Weißekreuzplatz in Hannover. The film went on to be screened in Hannover, Berlin, Dresden, Göttingen, Wunstorf and Dortmund, and at the LUMIX Festival. In 2015, Abbas Yassin was allowed to sit in and observe the director of “FELLINI” at Schauspiel Hannover at work, and he documented the WELCOME ARTISTS event at Pavillon Hannover. Further documentaries followed in 2016, including THE BLACK DAY IN WHITE CROSS SQUARE about the police’s violent evacuation of the protest camp in Hannover.
