Haminiaina Ratovoarivony
Biography
Haminiaina Ratovoarivony is a young filmmaker looking to imbue new life into Malagasy cinema. His first feature film, MALAGASY MANKANY earned him international recognition. His enthusiasm for cinema was awakened in childhood, when he found his father’s 8mm camera. His father explained to him that cameras are a tool for sharing ideas with others and for changing society through pictures and stories. After studying sociology in Madagascar, Ratovoarivony moved to France to study film. With “Colorful Films”, he founded his own production company. He currently lives in Chicago. His road movie MALAGASY MANKANY was shown in the video competition of the Pan-African FESPACO film festival in Ouagadougou, as well as in numerous other international festivals.
