Biography

Cameraman, producer and director Michel K. Zongo was born in 1974 in Koudougou in Burkina Faso. He is currently the artistic director of the ‘Koudougou Doc’ documentary festival. From 2003 to 2008, he worked for ‘Cinomade’, an association in Burkina Faso that raises awareness about various social and health-related issues through cinema. Two of his documentaries have already been screened in Cologne at the Afrika Film Festival: ÉSPOIR VOYAGE (2011), a road movie about Burkinabe migrant workers in the Ivory Coast, and LA SIRÈNE DE FASO FANI about the demise of a textile factory. Michel K. Zongo will attend the festival in Cologne for the first time for the screening of his documentary PAS D’OR POUR KALSAKA about a gold mine’s social and ecological impact. FilmInitiativ has invited him to visit the Rhineland’s lignite mining region and to join a workshop about protest movements opposing mining projects in Burkina Faso and Germany.
