Biography

Artist William Adjété Wilson splits his time between Paris, Togo, Benin and Haiti and provided the idea and illustrations for the exhibition, with his cloth picture series L’Océan Noir (Black is the ocean). He gained inspiration for their design through the artistic traditions of his family’s West African homeland. Following the first presentation of his works in 1976 in Paris, he has presented them in numerous exhibitions not only in Europe but also in Africa and the US. He paints with pastels on paper, shapes sculptures out of wood, creates lithographs and engravings as well as illustrations for books and magazines.
