Biography

Ella Raidel, born in 1970, is an artist and filmmaker. From 2002-2009 she lived in Taipei, the Taiwanese capital. She has shown her work at international exhibitions and film festivals, and in 2011 her dissertation Subversive Realitäten – Die Filme des Tsai Ming-Liang was published by Schüren. In the same year she worked as Artist-in-Residence in Beijing. With a grant from the Linz University of Art and Design she carried out research on independent cinema in China.
Her documentary Subverses – China in Mozambique took her to Africa where she was able to find out about the Chinese investors’ behaviour in more depth as she could speak with them in Chinese. The film has been screened at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Duisburg Film Week and at the Crossing Europe Film Festival Linz where she received the “Local Artist Award“.
