Biography

Jawad Rhalib, born in 1965 in Morocco, studied communications and journalism in Belgium. As a writer and director,
he has oriented his work on social realism, focusing primarily on human rights issues and the consequences of globalisation.
Since the 1990s he has written and directed a number of short, medium and full-length documentaries in both Morocco
and France, and has gained international recognition.
His film EL EJIDO, THE LAW OF PROFIT about African migrant workers in Andalusian greenhouses won the best documentary award at FESPACO 2007, and his latest film WHEN ARABS DANCED is a call for a return of basic freedoms in Arab society. It came second in the documentary competition at FESPACO 2019, and won further awards at festivals in
Nyon, Brussels and Geneva.
