Mariama

Mariama is singer-songwriter and guitarist, who describes her style as “soul, folk and global pop”. She was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, grew up in Cologne and has international roots. “One of my grandfathers is from Prague, the other from Foutah Djallon in Guinea, and his ancestors are nomads like the Fulani, Fula, and Peul. And my German grandmother has Norwegian and French ancestors.” Since her childhood, she has often visited family members in France, and now lives part-time in Paris. The city’s music scene and especially the many musicians

from West Africa playing there also influenced her own artistic path. After a solo CD (The Easy Way Out, 2012) and an EP (No Way, 2013) she has recorded her latest album, Moments like this, along with the kora player Abdoulaye Kouyaté from Guinea.
