Bheki Ernest Buthelezi

Biography

Bheki Ernest Buthelezi was born in Nguthu in the Kwa Zulu-Natal province along the eastern coast of South Africa. Early on he became politically involved in Umlazi, a township of Durban, where he also was active in the trade union movement. During the Amplats mine strike, he worked on setting up the Marikana Support Campaign, a solidarity movement for workers threatened by the police or military. In August 2013, a year after the massacre of the striking Marikana workers, he organised the first memorial event. He currently works as an activist in his township.
