Biography
Ntshavheni Wa-Luruli was born 1955 in Johannesburg. After completing his bachelor in Dramatic Arts in Acting at the University of Witwatersrand he went on studying screenwriting and directing at the Columbia University in New York. Winning the Paramount Pictures Writing Award in 1989 Ntshavheni Wa-Luruli then worked as Assistant Director to Spike Lee on features including MALCOLM X (1992) and JUNGLE FEVER (1991). Besides his own productions Ntshavheni Wa-Luruli as well writes screenplays for film and television. He also lectures in the Department of Journalism, Film and Television at the University of Johannesburg.
2004 his film THE WOODEN CAMERA (2003) won the Crystal Bear at the Berlinale in the category Best Youth Film. His latest production ELELWANI was the opening night film at the 33rd edition of the Durban International Film Festival and was also presented at the Forum of the Berlinale this year.
