Biography

Jana Pareigis is a TV presenter on ZDF Morgenmagazin, for which she works as a freelance reporter, as she also does for Deutsche Welle TV and Deutschlandradio. She previously worked as an assistant to the editor in chief at the N24 television station in Berlin. Jana Pareigis studied political science and Africa studies in Hamburg, New York and Berlin, and then completed a journalism traineeship at Deutsche Welle. In 2016, she directed the documentary AFRO.DEUTSCHLAND, which FilmInitiativ will present at the 15th Afrika Film Festival Köln. “From the moment I wake up and go out, racist views and images rain down on me,” says Pareigis. She starts her documentary by interviewing Black Germans. She wants to show us “what it feels like to always have people grabbing your hair. What it feels like to always be asked where you come from. What it feels like to be insulted, threatened and abused.” The film is part of a Deutsche Welle online project on the subject and is also streamed in English, Spanish and Arabic.
