Biography

Lula Ali Ismaïl is a filmmaker and actress who divides her time between Montreal, Paris and Djibouti. In 2011, she has
written, co-produced and directed her first short film LAAN in Djibouti where she also plays a leading role. The film was
broadcast in TV5 World and screened in festival Ouagadougou, Tunis, Lausanne, Amsterdam and Montreal. In 2013,
she set up a production company called Samawada Films, with which she produced the short film SECOND CHANCE
and the documentary AGAINST KHAT. In 2016, she worked as casting director and second assistant director of Wim Wenders
feature film « Submergence » in Djibouti. In 2015/2016, she shot her first feature film DHALINYARO
(YOUTH) as director, coproducer and co-author – the first feature film in the history of Djibouti.
