Abstract

“Never before has anyone dared to cinematically focus concretely on the subject of Aryans – even though in Germany, people of different religions, colours, or sexual orientations have been, and continue to be, persecuted and murdered under the alleged label of ‘Aryans‘. Afro-German director Mo Asumang embarks on a personal journey attempting to figure out what is behind the idea of a ‘master race‘. She meets pseudo-Aryans at Nazi demonstrations, travels to meet the true Aryans of Iran, and meets with the notoriously racist Ku Klux Klan in the United States. The documentary DIE ARIER is a tour de force, peering insightfully into the abyss of racism.”

(fi lm-distribution press kit) Mo Asumang told the Nürnberger Nachrichten newspaper in an interview: “Every racist can be checkmated relatively quickly if you don’t meet him with counter-hatred. That takes away any possibility that his image of the enemy can remain.” The publication’s film critic remarked that “with her disarmingly open manner, Mo Asumang manages a deeper look into the soul of racism. She shows how it

is motivated primarily by fear, the feeling of powerlessness and the search for protection within a group, just as many scientists have argued. Yet in the direct confrontation that Asumang dares to present, DIE ARIER is a rare, evocative, marvellously made document.”
