Abstract

Globalisation has led to increasingly more cooperation between artists and cultural creatives across boundaries of countries and continents – especially in film productions, music, and dance. However, in the field of theatrical work, transnational projects must overcome larger organisational, linguistic, and financial barriers. Even more remarkable is the close cooperation that has been developed over the last few years between Cologne`s THEATER IM BAUTURM and the theatre troupe Compagnie FALINGA in Ouagadougou. German and African actors have met at rehearsals in both Cologne and Ouagadougou, to study a Congolese writer`s play under the staging expertise of a Burkinabé director, and finally to present the work in theatre festivals in both cities.

Christian Hennecke has cinematically documented this intercontinental cooperation. Taking this as a departure point, the experiences and insights gained will serve as fodder for reflection. Furthermore, with the presence of director Dani Kouyaté and initiator Gerhardt Haag, their importance within the intercultural work of local individuals and initiatives will be looked at by the workshop participants. Dr.Lale Akgün will serve as moderator. Due to her Turkish roots and committed political involvement in Germany, she possesses rich personal and intercultural experiences, and has published several books on these and other subjects.

The workshop is open to all who are interested in intercultural work. Particularly welcome are those who can contribute examples of practical experience to the discussion, such as experience from immigrant associations and organizations, refugee initiatives, or other multicultural (cooperation) projects.
