Abstract
WALLAY tells the story of young Ady, who actually lives in France. When his father sends him to Burkina Faso to stay with his family there, Ady is hoping for a relaxing holiday in his father’s homeland. But when he arrives there, he gets a chilly reception from his uncle, a traditional fisherman, and the first signs of a feud between the two of them soon surface. Other family members try to step in, but Ady soon realises that things are done differently in West Africa and that he isn’t there on holiday...
With WALLAY, Berni Goldblat once again demonstrates how strongly rooted he is in his adopted home of Burkina Faso, where he now has citizenship. The film has been touring festivals all over the world for months now, including the Berlinale and Cannes, and festivals in Iran, Israel, Zanzibar, Cameroon and South Africa. The accolades he has been awarded for the film include audience prizes in Angers and in Tangier/Tarifa and the main price at the film festival in Zanzibar 2017.
