Abstract

Over the course of a year Ghanaian documentary filmmaker Yaba Badoe followed Ama Ata Aidoo - one of the most renowned female authors of the African continent – with her camera:  launching her latest collection of short stories in Accra, attending the premiere of her play Anowa about the slave trade at the University of California and meeting friends in her home village in Ghana. The result is a very personal portrait with contemporaries like Carole Boyce Davies, Nana Wilson-Tagoe and Vincent Odamtten paying tribute to the works of the Pan-Africanist, feminist poet and novelist Ama Ata Aidoo.
The film won the award for Best Documentary at Silicon Valley African Film Festival (USA) in 2014 and it was screened in Newark as part of the Women`s History Month Film Festival in 2015.
