Abstract

In the 1960s, hundreds of thousands of North Africans came to work in Europe. Countless women then joined them, leaving everything behind to follow their husbands to unknown countries such as Belgium. Their lives unfolded in a small radius between their flat and the market. Many of them never learned to read and write. As consolation, they listened to the dictum PATIENCE, PATIENCE, T`IRAS AU PARADIS ! ("Be patient, paradise awaits you!"). But several of the women grew impatient with decades of being marginalised and they stepped out from their husbands` shadows. This film accompanies them on their heartening new awakening in a thus far unknown world.
