Abstract
This compelling documentary chronicles the remarkable story of the Liberian women who joined together to end a long civil war, armed only with their white T-shirts and the courage of their convictions. Thousands of women - ordinary mothers, grandmothers, aunts and daughters, both Christian and Muslim - organised prayers for peace and staged non-violent protests when negotiations between rebel forces and Charles Taylor`s regime were close to collapse in 2003. Their actions were a critical element in bringing about the agreement that led to Taylor`s exit, the end of the war, and the election of president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as Africa`s first female head of state.
An extraordinary testimony of how grassroots activism can alter the history of nations.
