Abstract

Morocco in the first years of the reign of King Hassan II: Musician Houcine is the proud father of a seven-year-old son and makes him promise to become the best in his class. But Mimou has other ideas and his father soon has other worries. Houcine directs a traditional music orchestra with female dancers, some of whom live in his family`s house and also rehearse there. But the ensemble scarcely gets any performances. In order to be able to play at conservative families’ women’s parties, the male musicians pretend to be blind...
The tragicomic drama won the Golden Tanit in 2015, the main award for best feature film at the Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage (JCC) in Tunis, the oldest film festival in Africa.
