Abstract

On the last day of the festival, the foyer at Filmforum im Museum Ludwig will turn into a party zone. The festival has a 25th birthday to celebrate! To mark the occasion, the Steven Ouma Band will perform with a reduced line-up (unplugged) and then guests can get down to the tunes of DJs Yannsky & Masoso Edwin Ibanda, both of whom were born in the Congo and are friends of the festival.

DJ Yannsky creates his own beats and produces and writes songs, e.g. for the ”Sing Deinen Song” (Sing Your Song) project that works with young people in the Cologne district of Porz (www.yannsky-music.de). He doesn’t only play pop, rock and chart hits at weddings, but also rocks dancefloors with afrobeat, azonto, hiplife, hip hop and RnB tunes.

Masoso Edwin Ibanda has been a regular fixture in the festival foyer for several years selling his CDs at a merchandise stall, where many cinema-goers and FilmInitiativ employees go to add to their African music collections. But he doesn’t just sell African music, he also DJs at parties all over Germany.
