Abstract

Tiya’s Dream is one of the eight stories that make up the film 8. The eight shorts illustrate the eight goals of Millennium for Development (OMD). They want to reduce poverty to half by 2015. Eight known directors were given carte blanche to express their vision of the challenge OMD has set. Abderrahmane Sissako is one of them and he decided to illustrate “Reducing Extreme Poverty and Hunger”. The film was shot in Ethiopia in 2007, and it tells the story of Tiya, a student at a rural school who doesn’t listen to her teacher. She looks outside, where some boys are playing rugby.
