Abstract

“50 years of independence, happiness and prosperity were promised to us. But today, young Africans climb into makeshift boats, cross the desert and the sea in the direction of El Dorado. How did it come to this?” asks Didier Awadi, director and one of the most famous hip hop stars in Senegal. He asked 44 interviewees including ex-presidents, ministers, writers, artists, historians, activists, migrants and refugees for an answer. They give an unflattering analysis of undesirable political developments. “Do not expect any naive objectivity”, says Awadi about his “pan-African” documentary. “Our intention is purely subjective. Our approach is revolutionary. We assume.”
