Abstract

Samuel is growing up on a farm in Kenya and longs for a different life, as his village sets great store in old traditions. The young man moves to Nairobi, where he finds belonging in a community of queer men. There, he meets Alex and the pair fall in love. But Kenyan law criminalises anyone who comes out as LGBTQI+. And Samuel’s father, a preacher in the local church, doesn’t understand why his son isn’t married yet. This leaves Samuel with the dilemma that the truth about his identity could cost him his family’s acceptance…
