Abstract

Tthe documentary Hip Hop revolution shows, how bands in South Africa used this form of music back in the 1980s in their struggle against the racist apartheid system. When Nelson Mandela was elected president, a diverse and forward looking hip hop scene developed in the Cape with artists like "Prophets of Da City" and "Shamiel X" along with their many imitators in neighbouring countries.
