Abstract

Set in the villages of Burkina Faso, Delwende is a powerful and vibrant story of a woman`s rebellion against anachronistic and sexist traditions. Napoko, a determined mother, has several problems to face. He young daughter is raped and then, much to her distress, Napoko`s husband Diarrha wants to rush their daughter into an arranged marriage. When Napoko is accused of witchcraft and infanticide, she is forced to flee to a women`s shelter in Ouagadougou. (Africultures)
