Abstract

In VERS LA TENDRESSE director Alice Diop goes on a journey of discovery into the young man`s world of a banlieue, the name given to the suburbs on the peripheries of French cities that are predominantly populated by migrants. Here she comes across a clique of friends who mostly kill their time out on the streets while displaying typical macho behaviour. But this gives way to an astonishing bashfulness and shyness when the filmmaker asks her protagonists about their attitudes towards intimacy and sexuality.
At the Créteil International Women`s Film Festival, Alice Diop won the Audience Prize and the award for best French-language short film.
