Abstract

Ricardo Rangel – who died in 2011 – was a journalist and one of the most important Mozambican photographers. He became a symbol for the generation of young people who in the 1940s and early 1950s revolted against the Portuguese colonial regime. His photographs document the oppression of African workers by white colonialists: drovers being branded like cattle, dockworkers being just numbers. Rangel exposed colonialism with his camera.
